Winston Churchill High School Booster Club FAQs

Looking for general information on the Booster Club’s mission, structure or fundraising policies? Check our Frequently Asked Questions for details:

Q: What does the Winston Churchill High School Booster Club Do?

A: The Churchill Booster Club is an interactive, non-profit organization affiliated with Winston Churchill High School and its Athletic Department. Its membership includes parents, alumni, WCHS staff and other adults in the community who support Churchill Athletics and our student-athletes. The Booster Club sponsors numerous activities and fundraisers annually to supplement the WCHS Athletic Department budget and thereby help our Bulldog teams and programs. The Winston Churchill High School Booster Club has raised approximately $100,000 annually during the last five years.

Q: How does the Booster Club interact with coaches, teams and parents?

A: The Winston Churchill High School Booster Club interacts with coaches, teams and parents in a variety of ways. We hold monthly and seasonal meetings, publish e-newsletters, correspond with members via e-mail, add posts on our Facebook page and work closely with the Churchill Athletic Department and coaches throughout the year.

Q: What is the difference between a Board Member Rep (BMR) and a Parent Team Rep (PTR)?

A: Both roles represent our Bulldog Teams, but one (the BCR) is now a Booster Club requirement of all Churchill teams. In an effort to foster better Booster Club representation and communications, each coach/team is now required to have a Board Member Rep (BMR) who attends Booster Club meetings all year long, not simply when the sport is in season. These BMRs report information back to their teams/coaches on Booster news and policies and each BMR has a single vote on Booster activities. The BMR serves dually as the Booster Club Rep for both JV and Varsity. (So, for instance, if you are the BMR for Boys’ soccer, you are responsible to represent both JV and Varsity Boys’ soccer at the Booster meetings.)

This BMR may or may not also take on the role of what we have traditionally referred to as a Parent Team Rep, or PTR. The PTR (an optional, coach-selected role) is a parent designated to help the coach manage team carpools, uniforms, team dinners, team banquets, etc., mostly during the season when the sport is played. Parents filling the role of the coach-selected PTR (or any WCHS parent) are welcome and encouraged to attend Booster meetings and get involved in our many activities throughout the school year. In fact, we need these volunteers (we are calling them Utility Players) so we can continue to grow and spread the Booster workload among many people vs. a small few. The only difference is these Utility Player volunteers won't also have a vote on Booster matters, unless they are the dually designated BMR for their sport’s teams (or serve as an officer the Booster Club). No matter their role, the BMRS, PTRs, Utility Players and coaches all work in collaboration with the Churchill Booster Club to support their representative teams and to promote WCHS athletics and our student-athletes.

Q: Why do teams need money?

A: The Athletic Department budget at WCHS is determined by Montgomery County Public Schools and does not always cover expenses for all items needed by Churchill teams. The Winston Churchill High School Booster Club raises money, promotes school spirit, establishes fundraisers, keeps Boosters and sponsors up-to-date on Bulldog news, and encourages Churchill fans to do the same. It is our job to do what we can to ensure our Bulldogs have the equipment, fields, courts and funding needed to compete at the highest levels against teams from other high schools in the Montgomery County Public School system and throughout Maryland.

Q: If a team wants to raise money, what is the procedure?

A: All teams planning a fundraiser must complete a registration form that describes the fundraiser, staffing for the event and contact information for questions about the event. It also requires teams to get signatures from the coach(es) affiliated with the team sponsoring a fundraising event and the WCHS athletic director. All fundraisers must be approved by the Churchill Booster Club and WCHS. Click here for a team fundraiser registration form.

Q: What happens to money raised by individual teams?

A: Effective beginning in School Year 2011-2012, all funds collected during a team fundraiser must be deposited into a Booster Club account. The Churchill Booster Club will then designate the use of those funds back to the team doing the fundraising, subject to the approval of WCHS.

Q: Who is the person in charge of the funds?

A: A parent volunteer or coach can be designated the person in charge of funds on the day of a fundraiser, but it is that person’s responsibility to get all donations, checks (made out to the WCHS Booster Club) and cash to the Winston Churchill High School Booster Club treasurer as quickly as possible for proper accounting of all funds raised.

Q: Who should teams contact with additional questions about fundraising?

A: Please contact Ariane Promisel, our Winston Churchill High School Booster Club Executive Vice President at: arianetrd@aol.com
